ABOUT FREE CLEFT SURGERY PROGRAM

Free Cleft Surgery Program All Over Nepal

Free cleft surgery program is conducted throughout Nepal by Sewa Foundation. We cover surgery costs, logistics, and travel for patients and guardians. While many organizations focus on city areas, especially in Kathmandu Valley, we aim to provide free cleft surgeries to people in remote districts as well.

Children born with clefts need more than just surgery. They may also need nutritional support, dental care, and speech therapy. Sewa Foundation is committed to treating the whole patient through programs that provide access to important comprehensive cleft care services.

You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.

ABOUT CLEFT AND ITS TREATMENT

What is cleft?

A cleft is a gap or split in the upper lip and/or roof of the mouth (palate). It is present from birth. 1 in 700 babies are born with a cleft lip and/or palate globally. Clefts cause difficulties in eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking.

Can clefts be treated?

Reconstructive surgery for clefts has evolved over more than half a century, and today’s techniques and procedures have come a long way. The surgery today is safe and the transformation is immediate. Patients see their smile for the first time, parents cry tears of joy, and lives and communities are changed forever.
